Free QR code generator

Build a custom QR with your own colors, eye style and logo. Download it as PNG, SVG or PDF: no signup, no limits. The watermark is composed outside the payload, so your QR scans to exactly what you type.

// parameters

Each download tags "Made with qrtags.co" below the qrtag. Your QR scans to exactly what you typed.

// static vs dynamic

Static codes are permanent. Dynamic codes are editable.

This free tool makes static QR codes: the URL is encoded straight into the pattern, so it keeps working as long as the print does and needs nothing from us, but it can’t be changed once printed. A dynamic QR encodes a short link you control, so you can re-point it after printing and get scan analytics. Here’s the honest trade-off:

Static QR (this free tool)
The URL is encoded directly in the pattern
Yes
Editable after printing
No: re-print to change it
Depends on any service to keep working
No: scans for the life of the print
Scan analytics
No
Cost
Free, unlimited, no signup
Dynamic QR (the paid platform)
The pattern encodes a short link you control
Yes
Editable after printing
Yes: re-point anytime, print stays
Depends on a service to resolve
Yes: resolves on your own domain
Scan analytics
Yes: privacy-first, kept for years
Cost
From $15/mo · unlimited scans
// why a dynamic qrtag

Two things a bare URL cannot do.

Route by device, place and time

The print holds one link; what sits behind it is yours to change. Send iPhone scans to the App Store and everyone else to the web, split traffic between two destinations to see which one wins, and count what happens after the scan. None of it needs a reprint. Smart routing is on Chain, Agency and Agency Plus.

Nobody quietly re-points your print

A custom domain is DNS-verified before its links go live, and every destination is checked against an internal blocklist, DNS existence, Google Safe Browsing and the abuse.ch malware feed the moment it is set. A qrtag on a menu cannot be turned into a scam link behind your back.

// what to use it for

Built for print that has to scan.

Print & packaging

Put a static QR on a label, flyer or box when the destination won’t change. It encodes the URL directly, so it keeps scanning with no dependency on us.

Posters & signage

Generate at high error-correction (Q or H) so the code still scans with a logo in the middle or minor print wear. Download SVG for crisp scaling to any size.

Menus & table tents

Match the brand, drop in a logo, export a print-ready PDF: no account needed. If the menu changes weekly, you want a dynamic code instead: re-point it, don't reprint it.

// how to make one

Four steps to a scannable code.

  1. 01 Paste your URL or text into the data field.
  2. 02 Set the foreground / background colors and the dot & eye style to match your brand.
  3. 03 Add a logo (optional) and raise error correction to Q or H so it still scans.
  4. 04 Download as PNG for the web, SVG for print scaling, or PDF for a print-ready file.
// frequently asked

Questions about QR codes.

Is this QR code generator really free?

Yes. The generator at qrtags.co/qr is free and unlimited, with no signup and no account. You can create as many static QR codes as you like and download them as PNG, SVG, or PDF.

Do the QR codes expire?

No. These are static QR codes: the destination URL is encoded directly into the pattern, so the code keeps working indefinitely and does not depend on QRtags to resolve. It will scan even if our service is unavailable. We never intentionally expire a dynamic code on the paid platform either: even a lapsed plan resolves to a branded page rather than a dead scan.

Can I edit a QR code after I've printed it?

Not with a static code: the URL is baked into the pattern, so changing the destination means generating and printing a new code. If you need to re-point a printed code without re-printing, that's a dynamic QR, which lives on the paid QRtags platform and resolves through a short link on your own domain.

What's the difference between a static and a dynamic QR code?

A static QR encodes the URL directly: permanent, free, no tracking, but not editable. A dynamic QR encodes a short link you control, so you can re-point it after printing and see privacy-first scan analytics, at the cost of depending on a service to resolve it. The free tool here makes static codes; dynamic QR is part of the paid platform.

Will adding a logo stop the QR from scanning?

Not if you raise the error-correction level. QR codes include redundancy so they still scan when partly obscured. For a centered logo, use level Q (25%) or H (30%) so scanners can reconstruct the covered modules.

Does the watermark change what the QR scans to?

No. The 'Made with qrtags.co' watermark is composed onto the image below the code: it is never part of the encoded payload. Your QR scans to exactly the URL or text you typed.

Which format should I download: PNG, SVG, or PDF?

Use PNG for websites and social posts, SVG when you need to scale the code for large-format print without losing sharpness, and PDF for a ready-to-send print file.

Need to re-point a printed code without reprinting it? Think a menu, a campaign, a client’s launch. Dynamic QR with unlimited scans and years of analytics, on your own domain, from $15.
